About 2 hours from Tokyo by train, Maebashi is a large enough city to still have most things at a convenient distance from your apartment, but having a car to get around will increase your enjoyment in the city. Nasu in Tochigi Prefecture (population density 128 people per km2) is an example of a rural setting. Surrounded by mountains it is great for those who enjoy skiing or snowboarding or bathing in hot springs. About 3 hours by shinkansen to Tokyo, Nasu boasts clean air, lots of personal space and nature knocking at your door. |
